Shift Maintenance Engineer

Responsible to
Engineering/Maintenance Managers

To optimise performance of all plant and equipment through working to a pre– planned maintenance schedule and completion of same. Attending breakdowns and ensuring all plant fixtures and fittings are maintained to a high standard. All safety and food safety standards are maintained to a high level.


  • Working with others as part of a team to improve production facilities: Reduce incidence of breakdowns
  • Diagnosing breakdown problems
  • Practical hands–on engineering and problem solving
  • Keeping all areas clean tidy and safe to work in
  • Working to a pre–planned maintenance schedule
  • All paperwork filled in completely and correctly
  • Best practice, company policies and procedures adhered too


The Role

  • Attend breakdowns, diagnose faults
  • When working to a planned maintenance schedule all work should be carried out to the full in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Working on a 12 hour shift system over a 7 day period.
  • Requirement to rotate to nightshift as and if required.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, holiday cover and call–outs.
  • Role requires both strong interpersonal and Communication Skills
  • Role involves the ability to negotiate and persuade others.
  • Work may involve extended periods on the bakery floor

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Experience within production and /or manufacturing engineering.
  • Practical working knowledge of computerised maintenance system
  • Both mechanical and electrical knowledge will be required to fulfil this role along with good technical engineering skills
  • City and Guilds Level 2 in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Computer Literate – Microsoft Excel Essential
  • Confidence to response positively when under pressure
  • Flexibility regarding your hours of work as required –  close liaison with technicians and minimising downtime can sometimes mean working unsociable hours as the Plants operate 24 hours a day
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and in response to breakdown emergencies.
