LOW GI WHATS IT ALL ABOUT
Irwin’s Low GI white is a new pan bread from Northern Ireland’s favourite family
bakery, which not only tastes great but also offers all the benefits of a low GI product.
What does GI mean? Gi stands for Glycaemic Index which is a way of ranking foods according to how quickly they are digested. The lower a food’s GI ranking, the slower it is digested, helping you to feel fuller for longer and sustaining your energy levels, therefore helping to avoid over eating and possible obesity.
What is Low GI white? Irwin’s Low GI White is a new addition to the pan bread family. With a GI ranking of 39 it is the only white bread to be classified as low GI in Northern Ireland.
| 0 > 54 | LOW GI |
| 55 > 69 | MEDIUM GI |
| 70 + | HIGH GI |
What does it taste like? Irwin’s premium standard of taste and texture has not been compromised so that you can enjoy a new healthier diet without cutting out your favourite sandwich bread.
Is it suitable for all the family? Not only has it all the benefits of Low GI but it’s also high in fibre and low in fat and sugar. Fortified with folic acid and added calcium, it’s ideal for growing kids and is a healthy treat for the whole family.
Did you know that following a Low GI eating plan can:
Keep your heart healthy- Control blood sugar levels and reduce the chances of getting diabetes
- Boost weight loss – foods with low GI value slowly release sugar into the blood, providing a steady level of energy, leaving you feeling satisfied longer so that you’re less likely to snack
- Help control diabetes – the large majority of studies that have looked at the effects in diabetics of switching to a low GI diet have found that it helps keep blood glucose levels more stable
- Energy levels and stamina – high GI foods cause sudden peaks, then falls, in blood sugar which can cause energy levels to crash. The gentle rise that occurs with Low GI diet creates a more steady energy flow
