Tips for Livening up your Lunchbox

We all know kids need a nutritious but exciting school lunch to give them an energy boost, keeping them eager and ready to learn in the afternoon.  Our top tips for a healthy lunchbox will take the stress out of school mealtimes ensuring children are satisfied throughout the day!

Top tips for a healthy lunchbox:

· To keep kids lunchboxes free from pesky bacteria, which could be harmful to little tummies, it is essential to keep food cold. Pack all their tasty treats alongside a small ice pack or a frozen bottle of water...problem solved!

·        Fresh fruit and vegetables are a must! There are so many different options for colourful fruit salads, so make sure they try something new and they’ll never get bored. Why not freeze some seasonal berries for a cool sweet treat?

·        Using a range of different breads is key - make sure to include a variety of wholegrain breads and rolls.

·        Instead of butter or margarine try using avocado (sprinkled with lemon juice to stop it discolouring) for a healthy alternative every now and then.

·        It is important to include dairy at lunchtime - cheese and yogurt are the ideal solution.

·        Adding lean meat, eggs, peanut butter, chickpeas or tuna will give kids the serving of protein they need.

·        If you want to add tomatoes to sandwiches remember to place them between fillings to prevent soggy sarnies!

·        To give salad some added excitement, choose child-friendly options such as iceberg lettuce and add colour a and texture by introducing grated carrot, bean shoots or baby spinach.

·        To keep little ones hydrated, include a bottle of chilled water or low sugar juice.
