1952 saw Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, visit Portadown, Co Armagh. W.D. Irwin, founder of the bakery, was Mayor of Portadown at the time and was invited to attend the Royal visit. Also in attendance was her daughter now Queen Elizabeth II.
Meeting the figurehead of the Royal family was a huge compliment not only to Portadown but also to W.D. Irwin.
