The game of hockey is a very popular sport both in terms of support in Northern Ireland and in participation through schools and hockey clubs throughout the province. That's why Irwin's have been involved with local clubs of Banbridge and Lurgan Hockey Club for a number of years now.
Irwin's have supported the Hockey Clubs through various intiaitives such as:
- Bread products for Open Days and Parents Evenings
- Irwin's Branded goods for end of year party
- Players' kits for tournaments
Irwin's Bakery is involved with all teams at youth level - Under 12 and Under 14 Girls teams.
The Banbridge Under 12's team recently travelled to Dublin for the National Championships and won the tournament. It was a great result and one which was well earned through their hard work throughout the season.
Sheree Totton, Under 12's Coach said: "The girls have done extremely well to win the National Championships. After all their hard work throughout the season, it has come together in a great performance right throughout the tournament. We had a pretty good chance of progressing in this tournment to the latter stages but the girls have done themselves proud by taking the Championship back to Banbridge."
The Under 12's compete in the Southern Education Board U12 League whilst the Under 14's participate in the Mid-Ulster League which are both province-wide competitions.
The Lurgan Under 12's team took the honours of Regional Champions.
